Press Release 7/2/2010
BES 2010

JHM Crops welcomes the announcement of the 2010 Bio-Energy Scheme. The development of the industry is dependent on reaching the required levels of critical mass-this new scheme will help to bring the industry closer to these targets.

While it is regrettable that the amount of the grant has been reduced by 10%, it is expected that there will be significant uptake again this year as the scheme was over-subscribed for the last number of years.

JHM Crops already has almost 4,000 acres of Miscanthus growing under contract around the country, and this renewal of the Bio-Energy Scheme shows the determination of the Government to promote and expand the industry into the future.

There are many people keen to make significant investment in processing and energy generation projects around Ireland using Miscanthus as the raw material. “This announcement will encourage these people to drive forward with their projects, safe in the knowledge that the Government is fully behind the industry” said Eamon O’Riordan, Market Development Manager. “This expansion is essential for the industry to reach its potential” he said. Mr. O’Riordan also stated that the Government is aware of the employment potential of the sector and is keen to support this where possible.

The application form for BES 2010 is already available on our website www.jhmcrops.ie which has recently been revamped.
