A Short Guide on the Steps to Growing Miscanthus
- once you fill in your Expression of Interest form [ link ] we will let you know about one of our many information nights we hold around the country and try to facilitate you in your area as best we can.
- After the information night we will arrange a farm visit with the farmer to assess the ground. We will also advise you to go and see some crops in your own area and will be happy to arrange these crop visits for you if you wish.
- JHM Crops will then go through all the details and the procedures that are involved in growing Miscanthus with you. We will help in applying for grants and any other paperwork involved.
- After you are planted JHM Crops staff will then monitor the crop with you and advise you on the best ways of maintaining a clean and vigorous crop in the first year.
- At the end of the first year JHM Crops will assess the crop and advise on the spray application for the crop.
- At the end of year 2 you should have a harvest, pending weed control and establishment in the crop.
- From year 3 on, you will have a harvest for at least 20 to 25 years with very little work involved and a very good return.
